Hi there Sweets,
As a little girl growing up in California, Disneyland was a special treat! Disney World was for the extremely lucky! I always wished to go! When I walked through the doors of Le Cordon Bleu San Francisco & saw the big poster advertising for a career there I knew that would be my ultimate goal. Luckily for me in December of 2013, after a stressful interview with the Disney World chef, I got the externship. I would leave in February of 2014 for the World Of Magic.
I want to delve into my whole DCP (Disney Culinary Program) experience in separate blog post someday! I think it’s safe to say though that in the week I spent here (June 31st-July 7th) I did more than I ever did in the 3 months l lived in Orlando.
Packing. Oh the packing. In case you didn’t know I’m a very sensitive human being.
Can’t handle heat, can’t handle the sun, & lets not get started on my feet!
I have tough feet. They are in ice skates every day & they even have super attractive bunions! But I have ALWAYS had problems walking around Disney parks. Just ask my friend Marisa, she used to push me around in a wheel chair. Throughout high school I tried every shoe imaginable when I went to Disneyland. Sneakers, converse, vans, sandals, what are those shoes that make you feel like you’re walking on clouds….CROCS. Yes, crocs. Nothing worked.
So, one day I was reading on June Bug & Georgia Peaches about a magical pair of ballet flats!

I was up to try anything. So I skipped on over to Macy’s one day & picked them up.
Let me tell you after a week walking around Disney World, I won’t go back to any other type of shoe. They are super comfortable & as long as you pick up some tiny little socks (which I got from H&M), you’re good to go.
See, all day, EVERY DAY! (Kind of)…I needed a pair of nude flats for a few outfits. BUT GUESS WHAT! Jessica Simpson makes these flats in nude…..that shall be my next purchase! 🙂
As for outfits… VooDoo Vixens Donna Dress won for the best fabric to wear in the Florida heat.

I’ll leave you with this, if ever I find myself traveling to an extreme humid region I will be getting more Voodoo Vixen dresses.

List of restaurants I visited while in Disney World. Now, I’m not an expert on the dining plan. I kind of just took Krista’s lead. A dining plan is really worth it, if you can stick to reservations. If you don’t mind the fact that appetizers don’t come with the meal, and if you can eat a lot of snacks!
Via Napoli (Italy)
—Paccheri alla Crema con Pollo
(large macaroni tubes, cream, chicken, pancetta)
—Carciofi Pizza – Mezzo Metro
(white pizza, artichoke, fontina, mozzarella, truffle oil)
—Zeppole di Caterina
(Ricotta cheese fritters, served with whipped cream and chocolate sauce)
Ice Cream Soda “Italian Style” Made with San Pellegrino’s “Aranciata” and vanilla gelato
Le Celliar (Canada)
—Dry-Aged Boneless Rib-Eye
(14-Day Dry-Aged, Watercress, Piquillo Peppers, Fingerling Potatoes, Sherry-Thyme Vinaigrette, Garlic Butter)
—A delicious Salmon
(For which I don’t have an accurate description other than cooked to perfection atop a beet risotto of sorts & a lovely flower garnish)
DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE POUTINE
Oh my goodness. Best. Part. EVER.
So we order two separate kinds even though, honestly, one poutine is enough for 2 people.

I would love to recreate that magnificent french fry perfection on a platter.

(If you’ve ever had french onion soup, think of it atop french fries. DELICIOUS!)

– Moroccan Quick Service (one of my favorites, I find I enjoy it more than sit downs. It’s also the place I would most frequent on a lunch break or after work).

Be Our Guest
I had heard so much about Be Our Guest & truly was thrilled. Big thing; GREY STUFF. A week before I left from Florida though, I was informed that chocolate was in the grey stuff. I’m not sure why I hadn’t realized that before due to what the color was (PS: if you weren’t already aware, I am allergic to chocolate). So that was a little let down, but the food was very good & the atmosphere was, how you say, on point.
—Braised Pork (Coq Au Vin Style)
(Eight Hour Slow-cooked Pork with Mushrooms, Onions, Carrots and Bacon served with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans Jardiniere.)
— I had the Strawberry Cream Cheese Cupcake
(Vanilla Sponge Cake, Strawberry Mousse Filling and Cream Cheese Icing.)
So here’s the deal I ate at Prime Time Cafe before (a must for any pin up/retro enthusiast, but I think I must say I enjoyed Sci-fi a tad more – they are both very unique in their own ways, but that feeling of any old timey drive in with tables sitting inside cars if just something you can’t beat)
(Tossed with Garlic-Basil Cream and topped with fresh Tomatoes and Parmesan with choice of Campanelle Pasta or Whole-Grain Penne)
—Flame-broiled New York Strip Steak
( Topped with Garlic-Herb Butter and served with Cheesy-Horseradish Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables, and crispy Onion Rings)
—Warm Glazed Doughnut
(Stacked with Cinnamon Apples and topped with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and Caramel Sauce)
—Hot Fudge Sundae
(Vanilla Ice Cream with Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, and a Cherry)
As a Cast Member said, “It’s on every blog you read about Hollywood Studios.” So I guess I must write about it as well…BUT REALLY…don’t miss out on the —-> Carrot Cake Cookie <—–
Not a fan of carrot cake normally, but it’s scrumptious!
– Bacon Mac & Cheese Hot Dog with truffle oil
I don’t spend a lot of time at Animal Kingdom (sorry to disappoint).
The Polynesian Village Resort
— Like I said I may be a little biased (since I worked there), but I DO BELIEVE this is the best restaurant at Walt Disney World.
It is a buffet style restaurant where the servers or your “Ohana” brings you things from which you can choose. If you’ve ever been to a Brazilian Steakhouse it’s very similar to that.
They first bring you a salad. Which while I was there changed twice & now is a completely different salad that has wantons in it. Delicious
Next they bring you the BEST POTSTICKERS EVER! (Thanks Chef!) & chicken wings. Nom Nom Nom. After that is noodles & veggies! Seasoned to perfection (I know, because I worked that station like a pro).
After that they start brings around chicken, shrimp, & stake!
Now…the finale…the thing I salivate over in my dreams.
‘Ohana Bread Pudding à la mode with Bananas-Caramel Sauce
The Animal Kingdom Lodge
Boma is an all you care to enjoy self serve buffet. Focusing mainly around the cuisines in Africa. Boma has a lot to offer & a lot of variety. I filled up my plate & could have filled up another plate full of completely different food! It’s great if you’ve never been & or you’ll be staying at The Animal Kingdom Lodge, but in my personal opinion it’s not necessarily a one that I feel the need or desire to go back to again.
There are so many other restaurants we visited & snacks we enjoyed. This trip to Disney World wasn’t my first, but it was the best & it certainly won’t be my last!
Note to myself: Next time go during Food & Wine/when it’s cooler. Don’t forget the Jessica Simpson ballet flats. Wear cooler clothing/light weight material. Drink lots of water & bring lots of sunscreen (also don’t forget an umbrella of sorts). Continue enjoying the food. It’s vacation gosh darnit, calories don’t count.
