Hi there my scrumptious little morsels!
Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Literally next week! Oh boy, where has time gone.
This retro recipe was found while searching the interwebs for Vintage Thanksgiving Day Recipe and I saw this one and knew I had to make it.
Over the past few years of being an “adult” I’ve actually begun to love sweet potatoes in roasted vegetables and in pies. Growing up the only time I had them was at Thanksgiving and then I would only eat the marshmallows off the top. So I don’t think I saw the total appeal when marshmallows were the star of the show & I had to go through that layer of delicious ooey gooey to get to the “orange carrot” looking stuff below.
Followed the directions listed in this ad to a “T”. Even bought the yams when fresh yams were an isle over.
Orange Marshmallow YamYums
2 – 17oz can Royal Prince or Princella yams, drained
2 oranges peeled, sliced, cut in half
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cup of Kraft marshmallows
Brown Sugar to sprinkle
“Arrange yams and orange slices in a 1 1/2 quart shallow baking dish. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake at 350*, 20-25 minutes. Sprinkle with marshmallows. Broil until lightly browned.

“Don’t turn your back on the marshmallows or they will be on fire the next time you open the oven…FYI”
So I wasn’t particularly fond of the oranges. Actually I avoided them all together, but hey maybe you like citrus with your yams and marshmallows and brown sugar, who am I to judge.
I think I also prefer the whipped sweet potatoes I’m used to seeing with this type of dish instead of large chunks. However, large chunks save time and are efficient!
Have you ever tried a variation of this dish? If so leave a comment down below letting me know!

When life gives you oranges, make a yam orange marshmallow casserole.
That's a saying right?
